Very little is actually known of the infamous Sappho who lived on the Isle of Lesbos. We know she was a poet, we know most of her works were later destroyed, and we know that it is from her that the modern concept of "lesbianism" first derived.
Sappho's' sexuality is still of scholarly debate and there are those who swear she wasn't gay. (We tend to disagree).
Regardless of whether she was the OG lesbian or not - we can say for certain it's her we have to thank for those "Sapphic vibes" you feel for the cute girl at Cubbyhole in the Village.
So, this shirt is to honor her. We think the blue color reflects perfectly of where Sappho lived in Greece, plus SaPPho...SaPPhire... it was just too easy.
