Wilde was eventually persecuted for his sexual identity and charged with Sodomy. However, when given the opportunity to flee for France, he refused and stood trial..Wilde was imprisoned and sent to serve hard labor for two years. He then spent the last three years of his life in exile. He died at the age of 45.
