If you love rock n' roll and putting dimes in the juke box, baby, odds are - you love Joan Jett.
Jett began her career with the Runaways in the late 1970's. After the band split, Jett set off to start her solo career as a musician. After being rejected by 23 record labels, Jett and Producer Kenny Laguna formed their own label, Blackheart Records, in 1980. In doing so, Jett became one of the first female recording artists to found her own record label.
Jett has always kept her private life private and has consistently refused to label herself as lesbian, bisexual or otherwise. Talk about "living life label free" right?
Her band, Joan Jett and the Blackhearts, skyrocketed to international success with songs like "I Love Rock n' Roll" and "Bad Reputation".
This one is for you, Ms. Jett.
